An extremely rare double sided 1966 FIFA World Cup silk and embroidered pennant with brass presentation plaque which reads "In Honour of their kind support and loyal co- operation during The 1966 World Cup, The Members of FIFA together with the "Comision Ejectiva" proudly present the Board of Directors of Waring & Gillows, Leeds United with The Jules Rimet Pennant of Honour, September, Hotel Ritz, Madrid, 1966, pennant, 42in long mounted on velvet board, in a hand made brass frame decorated with seven brass circular medallions, embossed with footballing scenes, made by Flandez S.L. Comes inscribed on the reverse "The Pennant of Honour was presented on 20th September 1966 at Hotel Ritz, Madrid, Spain, in Honour of Mr M. Cousins support and participation by the firm of Waring and Gillow during the 1966 World Cup tournament. Presented by FIFA as a special "Pennant of Honour" woven in 22 carat gold bullion upon silk with the embroidered reverse depicting the classic motif of The First Jules Rimet Trophy. Only three other examples were presented during the evening and were awarded to FIFA officers
The fine polished brass frame was designed by Juan Flandez of the Estabecimientos Flandez S.L. of Calle Mayor, Madrid, Spain, was a famed silver and goldsmith in both Montevideo and Madrid.
Waring and Gillows were responsible for providing all the furniture before and during the build up to 1966 World Cup of which the Cousins family were Directors of the Company as well as Directors of Leeds United at that time.
