A rare and early blacksmith-made holing out putter, circa 1800, wrought iron head with thick, original ash shaft & exceptionally deep nicking at the top of the tapering hosel (15cm., 6in.), with a later but nevertheless very old replacement grip, length of shaft 95cm., 37 1/4in. This implement is not dissimilar to the holing out putter in the Royal Blackheath collection.
