(3) The Whitbread Gold Cup was Britain's first commercially sponsored race and was first run at Sandown Park in 1957. The 1959 renewal was won by Mr J Baillie's Done Up, trained by H R Price and ridden by H Sprague. The runner-up was the popular chaser Mandarin.
