David Dalby of York (1794-1836) TAWPY, A BAY RACEHORSE WITH A JOCKEY UP signed, oil on canvas 66 by 85cm., 26 by 33 1/2in. Tawpy was a half-bred that meant his appearances on the racecourse were restricted to hunter flat races in which he was spectacularly successful. In 1825 he won 13 races and changed ownership mid-stream from Mr Brotherton to Lord Grosvenor.
