The boxing gloves worn by Joe Louis in the 1948 Earl's Court Champions in Action Exhibition, a pair of Everlast 16oz. brown leather gloves, originally signed & dated 19th March 1948 on tags over the maker's labels, now very faded, original strings; sold with a signed letter of authenticity from Harold Mayes, a personal friend of Louis and author of his life story for the Sunday Empire News; & associated memorabilia, comprising a framed copy of the Earl's Court 1948 Champions in Action programme; a signed typescript letter from Joe Louis written during his stay in London for the exhibition dated 15th March 1948, mounted in a frame beneath a b&w portrait photograph; two further framed presentations both with a pair of b&w photographs, the first showing relating to Louis's fight at the Liverpool Stadium in 1944, the other showing the boxer playing golf at Formby and training in Liverpool; & a copy of Margery Miller's book Joe Louis: American, published in 1945 (8)
