Phil Thompson: a squad-signed white No.18 England 1982 World Cup jersey, 21 signatures in black marker pen, short-sleeved with embroidered three lions badge; complete with a pair of blue shorts numbered 18 This was a spare, unused jersey from the tournament which, together with a pair of shorts, was donated by Phil Thompson for a raffle in 1985 in aid of the Bradford Fire Disaster. Photographic records show that the England team took a good deal of variety of kit with them for the 1982 finals, including shirts that had the Admiral logo on the chest and on the reverse numbers, and others that were devoid of the manufacturer's logo. Whilst a red version shirt, similar to the present example, was employed in the opening game v France without displaying the logo, on all other occasions the England shirts bore the Admiral mark. Therefore we can conclude that Thompson donated one of his unused spares.
