Pierre Lenordez (1815-1892) GLADIATEUR signed, bronze, mid-brown patina, the plinth cast with a panel extensively inscribed with details of the legendary 19th century French racehorse 32.5 by 35cm., 12 1/2 by 13 3/4in. Gladiateur broke the domination of British racehorse owners and breeders on the Turf when becoming the first French trained winner of the Derby in 1865. The colt also won the 2,000 Guineas and the Grand Prix de Paris.
