A racing plate worn by Papyrus when winning the 1923 Derby, sold with a letter of authenticity dated June 20th 1923 from a Mr Harper of Golding & Son, Tailors, High Street, Newmarket and addressed to a Mr Harris (2) Mr Irish's Papyrus was trained by Basil Jarvis at Newmarket and ridden by Steve Donoghue. Having won the Derby in 1923 Papyrus was involved in a unique match with the Kentucky Derby winner Zev on dirt at Belmont Park, New York. The American horse won by 5 lengths.
