The whip dropped by Richard Johnson at the furlong pole aboard Rooster Booster in the 2003 Martell Cognac Aintree Hurdle, the whip inscribed R. JOHNSON; sold together with the yellow & black check cap worn by Johnson in the same race; the lot also including an official printed Martell Grand National fence flag, flown at one of the Grand National fences along the far straight (3) The Champion Hurdle winner was adjudged an unlucky loser in the 2003 Aintree Hurdle, with his rider crucially dropping his whip with a furlong to run after the last flight of hurdles. Rooster Booster has headed in the final strides going down a head to the Irish runner Sacundai. The whip was retrieved by a member of the Aintree ground staff but Richard Johnson refused to be reunited with it and told the member of staff to keep the whip, together with the cap he wore in the race.
