A racing plate of the champion racehorse and stallion Hampton, mounted on lead base for hanging, inscribed HAMPTON, THE PROPERTY OF MR F G HOBSON, TRAINED BY ROBERT PECK Hampton was a bay colt foaled in 1872 by Lord Clifden out of Lady Langden and won 20 races in a highly successful career. The top-class stayer then became a champion sire, heading the stallions list in 1887 and siring three Derby winners.
