Isaac J. Cullin (op.1881-1920) THE ST LEGER STAKES 1913 signed & dated 1913, inscribed THE ST. LEGERS STAKES, 1913, NIGHT HAWK E WHEATLEY, WHITE MAGIC F WOOTTON, SEREMOND SPEAR, watercolour, 33 by 46cm., 13 by 18in. Night Hawk was a bay colt foaled in 1910 by Gallinule out of Jean's Folly. Having owned or bred winner of the two Guineas, the Derby and the Oaks, Colonel Hall-Walker won the other English Classic, the St Leger, in 1913 with Night Hawk. It was a shock result at odds of 50 to 1. The colt never won a race before or after his famous Doncaster victory.
