A racing plate worn by The Dikler when winning the 1973 Cheltenham Gold Cup, the silvered racing plate mounted on the rim of a silver dish, hallmarked, Wakely & Wheeler, London, 1972, the bowl inscribed THE DIKLER, WINNER OF THE GOLD CUP, CHELTENHAM 1973, diameter 18.5cm., 7 1/4in. The 17-hand, blaze-faced The Dikler contested the Cheltenham Gold Cup in seven consecutive seasons. He won in 1973 beating the hot favourite Pendil, was a close second on another occasion and was placed third twice. He was a great favourite with racegoers.
