The crowd booed Schumacher as he stood on top of the podium after this race. Rubens had been told to move aside for his teammate on the very last lap, having been fastest in practice and then led throughout. Such team orders were immediately banned by the FIA, though Michael would 'gift' the US Grand Prix to Rubens later on in the year.
