The trophy for the 1958 Imperial Cup Hurdle, in the form of a silver replica after the antique of the Warwick Vase, hallmarked London, 1906, the base inscribed IMPERIAL CUP, WON BY, MRS R.D. VALLANCE'S ''FLAMING EAST'', 1958, height 27cm., 10 1/2in., weight approximately 3,500gr., 112oz. Flaming East victory in the 1958 Imperial Cup provided the first major winner in the career of the celebrated amateur national hunt jockey John Lawrence, Lord John Oaksey. Mrs Ricky Vallance's Flaming East had won the County Hurdle at Cheltenham the previous season.
