John Paddy Carstairs (1916-1970) THE BOAT RACE signed, pen & ink and watercolour, 33 by 49cm., 13 1/2 by 19 1/4in., framed & glazed John Paddy Carstairs was an eminent film & TV director whose career span between 1933 and 1964 and who is perhaps most famously associated with The Saint, the Simon Templar character created by the author Leslie Charteris. Away from the film set, he was a comic novelist and a painter.
