In 1989 Sunday Silence won the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, the Breeders' Cup Classic at Gulfstream Park and other races and was voted US Racehorse of the Year. He was exported to Japan as a stallion where he reigned supreme as Champion Sire between 1995 and 2007.
