Cup final at Wembley, an official unnumbered spare by Umbro, short-sleeved, red with white v-neck and cuffs, with the famous embroidered 'phoenix' crest inscribed WEMBLEY, 1958 Just three months after the horrors of the Munich Air Disaster, Manchester United played in the 1958 F.A. Cup final against Bolton Wanderers, an outstanding achievement from a team made up primarily by newcomers. As a symbolic gesture, the United team wore shirts with a crest of a phoenix risen from the flames. On the day Bolton Wanderers proved too strong and won 2-0 with both goals being scored by the recently departed Nat Lofthouse.
