Len Capewell: a black England v Scotland cap season 1921-22, inscribed E v S, 1921-22 The present cap represents a little bit of a mystery as to exactly what level of football it was awarded. It's certainly not for a full international game, and does not appear to be intermediate of amateur either. Capewell was with Aston Villa in season 1921-22, but did not turn professional until the start of the following season. Leonard King Capewell was born at Bordesley Green, Birmingham, 8th June 1895. The inside-forward/centre-forward was known by his nicknames of ''King'' or ''Nobby'' and joined Aston Villa from Wellington Town in January 1921 for a fee of ?700. Capewell played for the Villa until 1930 and scored precisely 100 League and Cup goals from 157 appearances, a fine strike rate. He was eventually sold to Walsall as part of a deal involving Fred Biddlestone's transfer. Leonard Capewell died at Evesham, Worcestershire, 12th November 1978.
