A filigree work model of a Portuguese Man o' War, with enamelled flags to the sails, mounted on a marble base with a plaque inscribed TROFEU AMIZADE, V CENTENARIO DE VASCO DA GAMA, SINES 1969, height 31cm., 12 1/4in. This trophy was for a football tournament played in the Portuguese coastal town of Sines, said to be the birthplace of the explorer Vasco da Gama. The tournament was in celebration of the 500th anniversary of his birth. Provenance: The San Siro Museum, Milan.
