The trophy for the 1956 Haydock Park National Trial Chase won by the following season's Grand National winner 'Sundew', in the form of a two-handle loving cup & cover by Simpson Benzie, hallmarked London, 1914, predominately with oak leaf decoration, inscribed SUNDEW, HAYDOCK PARK NATIONAL TRIAL CHASE, 8th FEBRUARY 1956, height 23cm., 9in., weight 1,200gr., 38oz. 12dwt. The 1956 Haydock Park National Trial Chase saw the clash of a previous and future Grand National winner when in heavy going, Sundew (1957) beat Quare Times (1956) by half-a-length, having made all the running under jockey Fred Winter.
