That’s a wrap! We've reached the end of the auction and we’re busy tying up final bids behind the scenes. Thanks for being part of it — we’ll be in touch soon.
1911 Brooklands Automobile Racing Club members year badge engraved 'J.Cobb', the brass medallion with year and club highlighted in coloured enamel, reverse stamped No.1395 and engraved J.COBB, maker's mark: DOBSON 200 PICCADILLY.W, lacking cord, small losses to enamel, 32mm., 1 3/8in., diameter John Cobb, the eventual, all-time Brooklands Outer Circuit lap record holder, was only eleven years old in 1911, yet was already a regular visitor to the Weybridge track, living as he did in nearby Esher. It is therefore quite plausible that he did mark this badge, in the traditional schoolboy manner, though any provenance has been lost since its purchase from a collector over 30 years ago.
