Stanley Matthews England cap for the 1939 Continental Tour, dark blue, three lions wirework crest, inscribed CONTINENTAL TOUR, 1939; sold together with 11 photographs of Stanley Matthews, mostly privately taken in Malta, and mostly autographed; together with a signed 1970 Stanley Matthews postal cover; and a letter of provenance from the current vendor (14) Stanley gifted this cap to a friend in Malta, a favourite destination. Whilst there he often help out with coaching sessions for young players. Many of the private photographs that accompany the cap show Sir Stanley during these sessions.
