Marian Hristov had ended the match on the opposing substitute's bench, having been withdrawn from play in the 89th minute. At the time of this game Hristov played for the reigning Bundesliga Champions 1. FC Kaiserlautern. He transferred there from Levski Sofia in 1997 and made 146 League appearances for the German club scoring 26 goals. Hristov won 27 international caps for Bulgaria between 1996 and 2007 and was a member of the national team at France '98 and Euro 2004.
