Frank Griggs (Newmarket photographer) DERBY WINNERS 1934 TO 1939 (A SERIES OF SIX) hand painted over a photographic base, uniformly mounted, framed & glazed, titled on the paper covered backboards, the 1934 & 1935 examples 15 by 25.5cm., the others 17.5 by 20cm., 7 by 8in. From 1936 the series becomes a formal portrait of the winning horse and jockey. The first two issues of 1934 & 1935 are more complicated compositions, being scenes of the finish and a pre-race paddock scene respectively. The series features Windsor Lad, Bahram, Mahmoud, Midday, Bois Roussel & Blue Peter.
