This baton belonged to the German sprinter Erwin Gillmeister who won a bronze medal as part of the 4 x 100m team at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. He successfully determined to keep the baton as a souvenir of the occasion despite the attempts of an official to retrieve it after the race.
