A 9ct. gold 1948 Football Association Charity Shield runners-up medal awarded to Jack Warner of Manchester United, inscribed FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION CHARITY SHIELD, J. WARNER, M/c UNITED F.C., 1948 John 'Jack' Warner (1911-1980) was a Welsh footballer born at Swansea. The wing-half made 135 League appearances for Swansea Town before moving to Old Trafford in 1938-39. The Second World War interrupted his Manchester United League career and he eventually moved to Rochdale in 1951-52, becoming their manager the following season. Jack Warner was also capped twice for Wales, and made one wartime international appearance. In the 1948 Charity Shield Manchester United were beaten 4-3 by Arsenal at Highbury. Six of the goals were scored in a pulsating first half.
