A rare Cortina 1956 Winter Olympic Games bearer's torch in superb condition complete with burner containing an unlit wick, based on Ralph Lavers's aluminium alloy pierced bowl with legend design first used at the London 1948 Summer Games; sold together with a printed photograph of a torch being held aloft at the Opening Ceremony (2) It is unrecorded how many torches were used during the 1956 Winter Games relay, but they rarely appear at auction and must have been quite limited in numbers.
