That’s a wrap! We've reached the end of the auction and we’re busy tying up final bids behind the scenes. Thanks for being part of it — we’ll be in touch soon.

A light blue & white striped Racing Club (Argentina) No.4 jersey worn in the Intercontinental Cup Play-Off v Celtic at the Estadio Centenario, Montevideo, 4th November 1967, short-sleeved European Cup winners Celtic faced South America's Copa Liberadores champions Racing Club of Argentina in the 1967 Intercontinental Cup. Celtic won the first leg at Hampden Park through a McNeil gaol. In the return leg at Racing Club the tie became deadlocked when the South Americans won 2-1. There was no away goals rule. Therefore a play-off match was organised 3 days later at a neutral venue in the national stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay. Here, the Argentinians prevailed winning 1-0. The present shirt has to have been from the 3rd game, because in the matches in Scotland and Argentina Racing Club wore a long sleeve jersey, switching to short-sleeves for the play-off. The games in South America were noted for their highly volatile and hostile nature on and off the pitch. Provenance: Bought at Christie's, 21st September 2004. lot 97. The footnote to the catalogue entry states that the shirt was gained as a swap by Bobby Murdoch.
