Raymond Mays-signed racing and personal memorabilia, comprising a photo card of Mays driving the prototype Talbot-Lago monoplace in the 1939 French Grand Prix, signed 'All good wishes', his racing results listed on the reverse, a signed 1942 wartime letter on TOC H headed notepaper, a signed 1973 letter on personal stationery concerning his Gordon-Crosby art collection; sold with three digitally scanned photo prints of him in the supercharged Vauxhall-Villiers hillclimb racer and four period press photographs of the crowd and guests at the post-war opening of the Ford dealership at Raymond Mays Garages in Bourne (10) During WWII Raymond Mays became the face of British motor sport as he toured the countryside fund-raising for the war effort by demonstrating his E.R.A. to people who had never seen a racing car before. In 1947 he used this fame to talk 350 British companies into a consortium to finance and help build the B.R.M., a project that took Graham Hill to the 1962 F1 World Championship, 15 years later.
