The silver trophy awarded to Elwood Cooke and his wife Sarah Palfrey Cooke as runners-up in the 1939 US National Championships mixed doubles in 1939, stamped sterling, the two handled vase with full presentation inscription, height 21cm., 8 1/4in.; sold together with an original press photograph of Mr & Mrs Cooke (2) Elwood Cooke won the men's doubles at Wimbledon in 1939 partnering Bobby Riggs. Sarah Palfrey Cooke was one of the great players of her era, winning two US Open singles titles and nine doubles. She was also twice doubles champion at Wimbledon.
