A London 1908 Olympic Games silver second place prize medal awarded to the Liverpool Police representing Great Britain in the Tug-of-War, in silver, designed by Bertram Mackennal, manufactured by Vaughton of Birmingham, two young maidens are crowning a winning athlete, the reverse with St George slaying the dragon, the rim inscribed SECOND PRIZE, TUG-OF-WAR, in original black leather fitted case with purple velvet lining, the lid inscribed gilt OLYMPIC GAMES, SECOND PRIZE, TUG-OF-WAR, LONDON 1908 The Liverpool Police tug-of-war team comprised Charles Foden (captain), James Clarke, Thomas Butler, William Greggan, Alexander Kidd, Daniel McDonald Lowey, Patrick Philbin, George Smith & Thomas Swindlehurst. Britain entered three Police teams and won gold (City of London, silver and bronze (Metropolitan). The Tug-of-War was competed for at all Olympic Games between 1900 and 1920.
