A Large and early battledore/badminton themed three-colour wood block print by Andre Gill (1840-1885) entitled ''Rentree de Coeur Leger'' [Returned with a light heart], printed in a copy of the French newspaper 'La Lune Rousse' on 22nd. July 1877, it shows a French gentleman gently projecting a heart in the air using a strung battledore André Gill was a French caricaturist. Born Louis-Alexandre Gosset de Guînes in Paris, the son of the Comte de Guînes and Sylvie-Adeline Gosset, he studied at this city's Academy of Fine Arts. He adopted the pseudonym André Gill in homage to his hero James Gillray, the English caricaturist and satirist.
