The blue Cardiff City jersey worn by Joe Nicholson in the F.A. Cup final v Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium 25th April 1925, Welsh Sports Ltd., Church St., Cardiff, long-sleeved, with embroidered silkwork badge bearing the Coat of Arms of Cardiff and the motto DEFFRO-MAE'N-DDYDD, Y-DDRAIG-GOCH-DDYRY-GYCHWYN In 1925 Cardiff City became the first team outside of England since Queen's Park in 1885 to play in a F.A. Cup Final. The Bluebirds lost 1-0 to Tunstall's goal for Sheffield United but would turn around their fortunes two seasons later beating Arsenal in the 1927 final. Joe Nicholson( 1898-1974) was an Englishman hailing from Ryhope in the north-east. He joined Cardiff City from Clapton Orient in 1924 initially as a right-half. However he took up centre-forward duties as a replacement for the injured Len Davies and his performances, including a goal in the semi-final, helped the Welsh club reach the final. At the end of the 1925-26 season he left in a swap deal with Aston Viila's George Blacburn, but played only one competitive match with the Birmingham side as a serious injury forced Nicholson into playing at non-League level.
