Seven issues of English newspapers carrying reports of cricket Matches between 1789 and 1888, i & ii) The London Chronicle, King's Scholars v Town Boys (students) at Tothill Fields, Westminster, published 28-30 Jul 1789; and in Maidstone, Kent, the Gentleman of the Hill v the Gentleman of the Dale for 500 guineas, 13-15 Aug 1789, ex-binder, good condition; together with five 19th century; iii) Lloyd's Evening Post 3-6 Sep 1802 Gentlemen of England XI v XXII Gentlemen of Surrey iv & v) Malton Messenger 10 Oct & 14 Nov 1863, formation of two clubs in Yorkshire and the 2nd England cricket team to Australia vi & vii) Kentish Observer, 9th & 16th Aug 1888, Canterbury Cricket Week With regard to the Grand Cricket Match in Maidstone, by using historical inflation rates, 500 guineas in 1789 is equivalent to over ?70,000 today
