Eleven issues of the 18th century newspaper The London Chronicle all carrying reports of boxing matches, details and publication dates as follows: Jackson and the Brewer 12-14 Mar 1789 Joe Ward and Edwards a sawyer of Deptford 7-9 Apr 1789 Great George the Brewer and Miles the Drover 9-11 Apr 1789 Humphreys and Mendoza 7-9 May 1789 Johnson and Big Ben, 15-18 Aug 1789 A butcher of Whitechapel and a Jew, 18-20 Aug 1789 Hooper the tin man and Cotterell the shoemaker, 5-8 Sep 1789 Big Ben and Jacombs 24-27 Oct 1789 a Blacksmith v a Brassfounder 17-19 Nov 1789 Ward & Mendoza, 21-23 Jun 1791 William Pickard and George the Brewer on The Curragh 4-6 Oct 1791, ex-binder, good condition; sold together with three further newspapers with boxing coverage: i & ii) Lloyds Evening Post 20-23 August 1802, Belcher and Burke, Heroes of the Fist and 6-8 October 1802 O'Donnald and Wilson, plus Belcher's Benefit at Sadler's Wells iii) Yorkshire Herald 11th April 1898, Fatality to a Pugilist, Chappie Moran died from injuries during a match with Maurer, the paper also carries a story of the Marquis of Queensberry fined (14)
