The Brazilian and American flags displayed on the occasion of Pele's first match for the New York Cosmos v Dallas Tornados at Downing Stadium, Randalls' Island, 15th June 1975, sold with a photocopy of a magazine picture showing Pele holding the US flag and the Tornados captain Kyle Rote Jr. holding the Brazilian flag in the centre circle before kick-off (3) Pele scored on his debut with a top-corner header as Cosmos drew the match 2-2. As part of his presentation the the American public these flags were displayed on the pitch before the game. Provenance: The Charles Martinelli Collection.
