Original Steve McQueen Le Mans film poster, a 1971, US special design in conjunction with Gulf Oil by Cinema Center Films, unfolded, 56 by 43cm, held in a clip frame Steve McQueen began competing in Californian club events after purchasing his first Porsche in 1959. Then, whilst filming in England during 1961, he actually finished third in a race at Brands Hatch driving a borrowed Mini. This involvement with motorsport led him to explore possible motor racing film ventures and eventually resulted in the production of 'Le Mans'.
