Harry Rountree (1878-1950) ''SAFE HANDS'', SPORTING DOC. [DUNCAN MACRAE, SCOTTISH & BRITISH LIONS RUGBY PLAYER] signed, watercolour & crayon. 38 by 27cm., framed & glazed Duncan Macrae (1914-2007) studied medicine at St Andrews University and is depicted by Rountree on the rugby pitch carrying a doctor's bag and newborn triplets. Macrae practiced as a doctor for 30 years in Dingwall in the Highlands. The centre played nine times for Scotland and toured with 1939 British Lions to South Africa. He also toured with the Barbarians. Macrae's rugby career ended with the outbreak of World War Two when he joined the 51st Highland Division serving as a medical officer. He was captured Prisoner of War at the Battle of Saint-Valery-en-Caux in Normandy in June 1940, and volunteered to serve as a medical officer at Stalag VIII-B, Lamsdorf, Upper Silesia. In his later life he served as President of Ross Sutherland RFC.
