He was a Football League referee from 1933 until the 1946-47 season. The highlights of his career was officiating the Arsenal v Sheffield United 1936 F.A. Cup Final, and the Scotland v Germany fixture at Ibrox in 1936 when there had been concerns that the game could be interrupted by political demonstrations.
