THOMPSON John Ernest Thompson (1909-1985) was born at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland, and played the majority of his career at Blackburn Rovers. He made just three League appearances for Manchester United having transferred for a fee of ?4,500 in 1936. He finished his career back in his native north-east at Gateshead.
