A football medal won by Joe Mercer senior in 1908-09, a 9ct. gold & enamel Cheshire Football Association Amateur Cup winner's medal 1908-09; sold together with a gilt-metal & enamel badge for the England v Ireland match in 1912, the badge lacking pin (2) Joe Mercer senior played for Ellesmere Port before signing professional forms for Nottingham Forest in 1910. After the Great War he played for Tranmere Rovers but suffered from poor health as a result of a gas attack whilst serving in the trenches and he died when Joe junior was just 12 years old.
