Joe Mercer's Arsenal FC Football League Division One Championship winner's medal 1952-53, 9ct. gold, the obverse inscribed THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, CHAMPIONS, DIVISION 1, the reverse inscribed SEASON 1952-53, ARSENAL F.C., J. MERCER, in original fitted case inscribed THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE; sold together with a letter from Tom Whittaker apologising for the belated presentation of his Championship medal, dated 11th September 1953 (2) In season 1952-52 Joe Mercer won his second Championship medal with Arsenal. In a close-run affair, the Gunners claimed the title on goal average having finished equal with 54 points with Preston North End. It was Arsenal's 7th Championship win.
