That’s a wrap! We've reached the end of the auction and we’re busy tying up final bids behind the scenes. Thanks for being part of it — we’ll be in touch soon.

Tennis: Memoires de Monsieur le Marquis de Montbrun by G. de Courtilz de Sandras, 1st edition, Amsterdam, Chevalier & Tirel, 1701, engraved portrait and ten plates, contains an engraving of Jeu de Paume A scarce copy of this fictitious memoir which contains an apparently unique representation of a Quarr? tennis court. The plate shows a view of ''le jeu de paume commun jardin'' (possibly Covent Garden), with the hero practising with his valet, and his adversary, disguised as a woman, watching through the grill. In his book 'The Annals of Tennis' (pages 93-94) Marshall notes the fringed cord (precursor to the net) dividing the court, the peculiarly flat-topped tambour, and the petit trou in the fore-hand corner, in addition to the protective nets mounted above the walls and the diagonally-strung rackets.
