A 9ct gold and enamel Football League 3rd Division Southern Section Challenge Cup winner's medal 1933-34 awarded to Jimmy Gray of Exeter City, the obverse with blue enamel and lettering THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP COMPETITION, hallmarked 9ct, in original Thomas Fattorini Ltd, Birmingham box, weight: 13 gms, diameter: 32 mm. James ''Jimmy'' Gray (1900-1978) Scottish footballer and fullback with Exeter City with over 200 league games, helping them to reach the quarter final of the FA Cup in 1931. A benefit game was staged for him by Exeter City against his former club Liverpool FC at St James' Park in May 1935 with Liverpool winning 3-1. He remained at the club until the end of the 1935-36 season. The Football League Third Division South Cup was a football knockout competition open to teams competing in the Football League Third Division South, the competition first held in 1933-34 and ran until 1938-39, the cup was revived for the 1945-46 season. Exeter City winning the 1933-34 season against Torquay United 1-0.
