Joe Mercer Manchester City manager 1972 original one-page autograph letter on Manchester City embossed letterhead, dated 28th March 1972 to Mr F.G. Smith manager of Preston Wanderers F.C declining an invitation to a dinner dance, Nicely signed in ink by Joe Mercer. James Joseph Mercer OBE (9 August 1914 – 9 August 1990) was an English football player and manager. Mercer, who played as a defender for Everton and Arsenal in his footballing career, also went on to be at the helm of Aston Villa, Manchester City and England as a manager.
