Very early Scottish F.A. Cup winner's medal awarded to Donald McKechnie of Renton FC in season 1887-88, un-hallmarked gold with elaborate design, weight 10gms., in original case, bearing a Christies Glasgow lot sticker, (not tested for gold) Donald McKechnie played at half-back and was a member of the team who beat Cambuslang 6-1 in the 1888 Scottish Cup Final. He also played in the so-called 'World Championship' exhibition game between the Renton team and the 1888 English Cup winners West Bromwich Albion - with the Scots winning 4-1 at Hampden Park in a match played in a thunderstorm.
