Provenance: Graham Budd Auctions, Sporting Memorabilia, 20th November 2007, Lot 277 In the Super Cup match played 19th November 1991 at Old Trafford, Manchester United defeated Red Star Belgrade 1-0. The away leg was never played due to political unrest in the former Yugoslavia. Mal Donaghy was a non-playing substitute. Mal Donaghy was signed by Alex Ferguson from Luton Town for £650000 in October 1988. The Northern Ireland international repaid the manger's faith with consistent performances at centre-back and at full-back in his 4 year spell at United.
