Two Manchester United Player's Contracts for John Doherty for season 1954-55 and the 1955-56 League Championship winning season, drawn up on behalf of MUFC by the Club Secretary Walter Crickmer, the first an agreement for the player to be paid £1 week between 1st July 1954 and 30th JUne 1955, signed by Doherty only; the second an agreement for the player to be paid £13 per week between 1st September 1955 and 5th May 1956, and thereafter £10 per week until 30th June 1956, an fully-signed copy by player and secretary Gordon Clayton was on National Service for the duration of the 1954-55 season, hence the £1 nominal payment to keep the player under contract at United, and in accordance with Football League governance under these circumstances.
