Daily Express Sportsman of the Year award presented to Lester Piggott in 1970, in the form of a large silvered medallion encased in a perspex display stand, the medallion inscribed DAILY EXPRSS SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR, 1970, SECOND IN THE DAILY EXPRESS NATIONAL BALLOT, 12 by 12cm. Despite his heroics with the 1970 Triple Crown winner Nijinsky, Lester Piggott finished runner-up in the annual Daily Express poll behind the popular British boxer Henry Cooper.
