The winning jockey’s trophy presented to Pat Eddery for the victory on Massarra in the Empress Stakes at Newmarket 30th June 2001, In the form of a resin bronze sculpture of a Gurkha soldier, label for Peter Hicks Associates, the base inscribed GURKHA DAY AT NEWMARKET, 30 JUNE 2001, height 29cm., good condition Massarra was a British-bred bay filly (1999) by Danehill out of Rafha (Kris). She was owned by Prince A A Faisal and trained at Arundel by John Dunlop. This was her most important victory, although probably her career best performance was when narrowly beaten in the G2 Prix Robert Papin.
